I’ve been doing football predictions for four years now and started with a small excel sheet to track odds and probabilities for the premiership matches. As it turned out, those skills I developed over the years to gauge match outcomes helped a lot with analyzing games of chance.<\/p>\n

The Overlap Everyone Seems to Miss<\/span><\/h2>\n

Assessing risk with expected value calculations and managing bankroll are the key elements to success in the world of gambling, and more so in live casino adventures beyond wonderland<\/span><\/a>, where you make decisions in the flow of the game. This is something I had already figured out with the matches of the Serie A last year, where I analysed BTTS and used the same techniques professional poker players use for pot odds.<\/p>\n

What I learned with my analysis of the 347 football matches from the past 5 years is that you can\u2019t always predict that 89th minute goal that wins the match just like you can’t always predict what the next card or spin will be. What you can always do is understand what are the baseline probabilities, and understand what are the sensible patterns and stick with them over time.<\/p>\n

What Football Data Analysis Taught Me About Gaming Decisions<\/span><\/h2>\n

I made the decision to test various approaches to gambling over a duration of three months, tracking every dollar I spent, and I learned that I like games that require player decision-making over ones that relied heavily on luck. In the end, it wasn\u2019t that different from analyzing football results.<\/p>\n

Treating casino games like sports analytics work might not be prudent, but examining trends in the same way is useful regardless of the context.<\/p>\n

Risk Assessment That Mirrors Match Analysis<\/span><\/h2>\n

Analysing a PSV Eindhoven vs. Heerenveen game (1.26 odds, 79% probability), I continually assess: do prices represent real performances? Are recent form trends factored in? Is there real value here, or am I blindly following favourites?<\/p>\n

Those questions relate to gambling choices as well. What is the true house edge? How does variability play out over the long and short terms? Where am I truly getting my money\u2019s worth entertainment-wise?<\/p>\n

I have two trackers now. One tracks my sports bet predictions. It currently shows I\u2019m at 61% for Over 1.5 picks. The other is for tracking my entertainment\/money spending, and it\u2019s showing theatres, sports bars, and gambling are the top money wasters. It provides a fast way to see where I\u2019m deriving value versus mindlessly burning money.<\/p>\n

The Crucial Skill Nobody Actually Teaches You<\/span><\/h2>\n

What is the most important skill? Knowing when to walk away. I have witnessed countless times people hit an accumulator at very long odds and burn the money with an even longer odds parlay. I have seen the same behaviour in sports betting, the casino, and in fantasy leagues.<\/p>\n

Now I set strict limits. Time limits (90 minutes per session at most and never exceeding) and a hard, weekly, $40 budget (no exceptions). People may find this boring, but I’ve followed this system and not once have I felt that “why the hell did I do that” feeling at 2:47 am.<\/p>\n

Everyone should understand that entertainment is entertainment and not a means to make money. People should not go to work to stress about their investments or to gamble, stressing about money.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
